Beads whose presiding deity is traditionally given as Goddess Durga.
Durga is the warrior goddess who defeated the buffalo demon Mahishasura, and the nine nights of Navratri and Dashain are hers.
The 9 Mukhi carries her nine forms. It is worn for protection, courage and energy, and it is also the main bead for Ketu. During Dashain it is one of the beads people in Nepal most often buy or receive.

Each bead has its own beej mantra. 9 Mukhi: Om Hreem Hum Namah. It is traditionally chanted when the bead is first worn.
These are traditional associations recorded in Vedic and Puranic sources. They are described here as tradition, not as medical or therapeutic claims, and no bead is a substitute for medical care.
