Saturn in the tradition

Saturn — Shani — is discipline, work, delay and consequence. It is the planet behind Sade Sati, the long transit people most often come to Rudraksha about.

Two beads are given to it. The 7 Mukhi is presided over by Goddess Mahalakshmi and is also widely worn for money and business, so it often does double duty. The 14 Mukhi, given to Hanuman, is far rarer and is the bead the texts treat as the stronger Saturn bead.

Common questions

Which Rudraksha is worn for Saturn?

Traditionally 7 Mukhi and 14 Mukhi. Which one suits you depends on your chart and on what you intend the bead for, so treat this as a starting point rather than a prescription.

Which mantra is chanted with these beads?

Each bead has its own beej mantra. 7 Mukhi: Om Hum Namah; 14 Mukhi: Om Namah. It is traditionally chanted when the bead is first worn.

Do I need my birth chart before choosing?

Not necessarily. Many people choose by intention rather than by planet. If you do want the astrological route, an astrologer working from your own chart will give you a better answer than a category page can.

These are traditional associations recorded in Vedic and Puranic sources. They are described here as tradition, not as medical or therapeutic claims, and no bead is a substitute for medical care.
