Rudraksha traditionally associated with the Vishuddha chakra.
Vishuddha, the throat chakra, is read as speech, honesty and expression — the place where what you think becomes what you say.
Both beads here are common and easy to start with. The 4 Mukhi, given to Brahma, is the learning and memory bead and is worn by students and speakers. The 5 Mukhi, given to Kalagni Rudra, is the most widely worn Rudraksha of all and the usual bead for a japa mala.
If you are choosing between them, the 4 Mukhi is the more specific choice for speech and study, and the 5 Mukhi is the general one that suits almost anyone.
| Bead | Presiding deity | Planet | Chakra | Rarity | Worn traditionally for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 Mukhi | Lord Brahma | Mercury (Budh) | Vishuddha (Throat) | Common | Memory, focus, communication, creativity, turning ideas into action |
| 5 Mukhi | Kalagni Rudra | Jupiter (Guru) | Vishuddha (Throat) | Most common | All-purpose bead: calm mind, stress relief, wisdom, general wellbeing; traditionally linked with a calm, steady heart |
4 Mukhi and 5 Mukhi. Chakra attributions are recorded differently in different sources, so you may see other beads listed elsewhere.
Each bead has its own beej mantra. 4 Mukhi: Om Hreem Namah; 5 Mukhi: Om Hreem Namah. It is traditionally chanted when the bead is first worn.
These are traditional associations recorded in Vedic and Puranic sources. They are described here as tradition, not as medical or therapeutic claims, and no bead is a substitute for medical care.
